Last year, when Dave and I went to DEMA, we decided to participate in the silent auction. We bid on some fins and then, kind of as a lark, we bid on a Beach Buddy. I hate carrying my stuff – what can I say – I’m a diva.
This looked like a great thing and lucky us, we won!
Stacie Hill, the inventor, walked me through the instructions and even gave me a video to watch but of course I didn’t do any of that.
Anyway, what with buying a house and a new job (that’s another blog), we hadn’t had time to try it out since we got it in November so we decided to try it out. Last weekend, when I was testing out my equipment, well, that would have been a great time to practice but well, I didn’t want to get it wet.
Long story short, I completely forgot how to put it together and it was only as I was dragging my stuff down the beach that I realized that I must have put it together backwards. It was a little tough to drag down the beach – especially in Delray where the sand is so soft. It just kind of sank in. But, it turns out, that wasn’t the problem. As I pulled my gear (panting) into the water, the little stick that you use to prop it up fell out of the bottom. (doh)
Then, I completely forgot to take off the wheels and tuck them on the bottom of the tank so my dive profile was a little off.
Oh well, I’ll try it again (after watching the video). We’re thinking of diving at Commercial next time so maybe the sand is less soft there and I’ll be less bubble-headed.
