Today is World Ocean Day – a good day to think about all the great things the Oceans do for us and what we might do for the Ocean.
A lot of land dwellers don’t think much about the ocean. I remember going to a meeting once where we were discussing the effect of a large construction project on the community. When I noted that since the golf course had gone in that a lot of the reef seemed to be failing – more algae, more silt, nobody really cared. But when I suggested that the same run-off nutrients could be ruining the ground water too, suddenly, they paid attention. If the reefs all die, we are all in trouble people. Protect your ocean – it’s not just for scuba divers.
There – I ranted. I’m sorry. Have a nice World Ocean Day and don’t forget to stop and smell the sea anenomes. (I love those too – it’s where the shrimp live).
