As the ultimate scuba diving gift, any toy loving scuba diver would find it tough to be unimpressed when presented with their own personal submarine. Being able to dive as deep as you want for as long as you want … well, at least as long as the batteries hold out – is something we all covet. Just a few years ago, a personal submarine was something that only the richest of the rich could conceivably afford. More recently, owning your own personal submarine has become attainable – at least for the moderately rich and even us more plebian types can conceivably have a personal submarine experience.
At the lower end of the spectrum are two man submarines from Sportsub starting at around $50,000.00.
More deluxe models from Triton Submarines right here in Fort Lauderdale range from $1.8 to $2.6 million. The Triton subs even come with a secret list of optimal dive locations.
Of course, for the average diver who doesn’t even want to have to pay for a tank fill, these prices might seem a little over the top and in that case, you can always consider the “BOB” a.k.a. “Breathing Observation Bubble” seen here in this video from http://www.cancuncd.com/.
Truth be told, most of these companies are not expecting to sell too many submarines to single buyers and they are already turning up as upscale options at ocean resorts like Poseidon Undersea Resorts in Fiji who are offering submarine piloting lessons among their many upscale options after they open in 2010 – they’ll be taking reservations in September of this year: .
